§ 4-58. Voluntary surrender of animals; surrender of multiple dog and cat litters.

  • (a)

    Any resident of the City may surrender an animal to the county animal shelter upon the payment of an adoption handling fee in accordance with a fee schedule approved by the Mayor and Council.

    (b)

    In the event more than one litter of puppies or kittens is surrendered by a single owner, the owner must either qualify for or obtain a kennel license, or have the parents spayed and neutered by a licensed veterinarian at the owner's expense, with proof to be furnished to county animal control within 30 days. Persons failing to comply with this subsection shall be subject to a fine of not less than $100.00 or imprisonment not to exceed five days. An exception to the requirements of this subsection may be made in the case of indigent owner or on an individual basis if confirmed by the director or director's designee.
