§ 8-126. Peddlers.

  • (a)

    Occupation tax license required. All peddlers desiring to do business within the must obtain an occupation tax license prior to any operation of such business which license shall be available for inspection by officials of the City at all times.

    (b)

    Term of license. Occupation tax licenses for peddlers shall be valid for a period of two weeks, from beginning date specified on the license.

    (c)

    Information to be provided. Applications for occupation tax license for peddling shall contain the following information:

    (1)

    Name, address, and telephone number of person making application.

    (2)

    Description of type of business, product, or service.

    (3)

    Name, address, telephone number, and internet information of home office of business, where applicable.

    (4)

    Locations within city where peddling is proposed to be conducted.

    (5)

    Period of time during which peddling will be conducted.

    (d)

    Identification letter. Upon approval by the City Council of occupation tax license, all persons who are to engage in solicitation shall obtain from the office of the City Clerk an identification letter in the form approved by the City Clerk. Identification letters shall be stamped with the official city seal. Identification letters shall be shown to potential customers by the peddler during any solicitation.

    (e)

    Time and manner restrictions. It shall be unlawful for:

    (1)

    Any person to solicit within a residential neighborhood except between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

    (2)

    Any person to solicit at any residence where there is posted in plain view a sign reading as follows: "No Solicitors."

    (3)

    Any peddler to fail to immediately leave any premises when requested to do so by any resident of those premises.
